Frequently asked questions
How do I register?
You can register on our website: https://www.midnightsunswing.fi/. You will be asked to fill in your payment details upon registration (your account needs to have credit/funds at the moment of the registration). Once your spot is confirmed, the fee will be charged. If your spot doesn’t get confirmed the hold will be freed automatically between seven and thirty days depending on your bank.
You can register alone or with a partner. We recommend signing up with a partner and reading the level descriptions beforehand.
When does the registration open for the festival?
The registration opens on 11 February at 21:00 EET (Finnish time).
Do I need a partner to sign up for this festival?
You don’t need a partner to register for this event, but usually there is a surplus of followers who are at a risk of ending up in the queue so you might want to look for a registration partner for yourself.
What level should I choose?
Lindy hop and solo jazz level descriptions can be found on our website (https://www.midnightsunswing.fi/). We ask you to be honest with the levels so we can ensure the best festival experience for everyone. Level descriptions for blues can be found here: https://www.midnightsunswing.fi/blues-workshop/
I signed up for blues workshop but I would also like to access the live music parties on Friday and Saturday. Is that possible?
The blues workshop doesn’t include weekend parties since the venue has a limited capacity. You can register to the Midnight Sun Swing Festival to get access to the whole weekend.
I haven’t received a confirmation yet. When will I get it?
We will work through all the registrations as soon as possible and take people in from the queue maintaining the leader-follower balance. If there are more leaders or followers, you might have to stay in the queue until we get more registrations.
I can’t participate after all. Can I cancel my registration?
We’re sorry but a confirmed spot on the festival cannot be cancelled. This has been stated in our terms and conditions (https://www.midnightsunswing.fi/terms-and-conditions/) which you accepted when registering. You can, however, sell your pass to someone else.
Can I transfer or sell my pass to someone else?
Yes, you can. If you cannot attend the event, it is possible to transfer your pass to another person. In that case, please write us an e-mail to midnightsunswing@gmail.com with all the information, including your registration info and the contact information of the other person. The level or role of the pass cannot be changed.
Can I pay with Edenred / ePassi?
Yes you can. We accept all the major employee benefit vouchers (for example Edenred, and ePassi) but there will be a small extra fee. You can pay the full amount with your employer benefit or just a part of it. The rest you can pay normally via bank transfer.
You can find Black Pepper Swing on your employer benefit app. Pay the amount you want in the app, take a screenshot and send it to midnightsunswing@gmail.com with your registration info.
We want to register as a couple but my partner also wants the solo jazz. Can we still register as a couple?
Yes, you can take Solo Jazz classes on top of your partner classes, but you need to take the same partnered class as your partner.
We wanted to register as a couple but I forgot to write my partner’s name in the registration form. What should I do?
Send us an email to midnightsunswing@gmail.com as soon as possible after your registration. If either of you have already been admitted to the festival from the queue we cannot pair you up anymore.
Can I only buy a party pass?
Unfortunately not. The party venue has a limited capacity and we are thus selling only full passes. We might sell separate party tickets later if there’s any room left.
I’ve heard that there’s a “swim sham”. When and where does it happen?
What a great question! The Swim Sham is a spontaneous midnight craze that might or might not happen. Keep your eyes open and your swimsuit ready during the Saturday party.
Can I be hosted? Can I host someone?
Hopefully yes! We have created this Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/midnightsunswinghosting/) for people looking for a host or offering a place to stay.
What is the festival schedule?
The preliminary schedule can be found on our webpage (https://www.midnightsunswing.fi/) and we will send a more detailed one closer to the festival to all the participants via email.
Where are the parties and classes?
The parties with live music will be at Hietsun paviljonki (Hiekkarannantie 9). The classes will be in different venues and we will announce the locations later. All the participants will receive a more detailed schedule and instructions via email closer to the festival.
I would like to volunteer. How can I contact the right person?
You can tick the box “Yes, I would like to volunteer” in the registration form and we will contact you later on. You can also send us an email to midnightsunswing@gmail.com. We appreciate all the help we can get since this is a small festival!
Do I get a free pass if I volunteer?
If you want to volunteer we hope that you are doing it because you want to participate in building our community. We will distribute the workload of the volunteers so that it’s not going to be too many hours per person. If you have trouble paying the festival fee please contact us via email midnightsunswing@gmail.com before the registration opens.
Is the blues workshop and Midnight Sun Swing the same thing?
Indeed they are not. The blues workshop is its own separate thing with a separate registration form as well. Attending the blues workshop doesn’t give you access to the weekend events. Also registering to lindy hop doesn’t give you access to the blues party.
I would really like to participate in your festival but I’m afraid I can not afford it. Is there any way to attend?

I can not attend the parties on Friday so can someone else go instead of me? I will participate the rest of the weekend though.
Unfortunately not. That sounds like a nice idea but since we are checking the participants and wristbands at the door we can not let anyone outside the registration list in. The venue is close to a public beach and we don’t want to risk any random people sneaking in.
I can not make it to my class on Saturday morning so can I take some other class on Saturday afternoon? That would be a much nicer and suitable schedule for me.
Unfortunately not. We will have a person from our team checking the wristbands during the classes since we want to make sure that no random people sneak in. Unfortunately, we have had issues with people not sticking to their assigned group.
What is the one-minute showcase and how can I participate?
One minute showcase is not a competition. It’s a possibility to present your choreography of 50-70 seconds during the Sunday party. The showcase can represent any style of Jazz (Lindy Hop, Balboa, Tap etc.) or Blues performed with a group, partner or solo. We will let you know soon more how to participate.
